For decades I’ve spoken of, and spoken up for, those who quietly and compassionately give of themselves to help others. Motivated by purpose, or kindness, or decency these folks appear on the sidelines of life offering aid in times of crisis. We are always grateful they’re willing… when the call for help is from our son, our daughter, our loved one…and then we move forward….and they keep doing what they do -answering the next cry for help. Hours become days, days become weeks, and months, and years. Sacrifice. Commitment. No paycheck can reasonably compensate for their gift. There’s no way for us to appreciate this enough. How can we begin to repay them for the time lost with their own families… for the stress, the missed holidays, the health impacts? We can’t… But we can be grateful. And we can acknowledge the sacrifice, the honor, and the commitment this work requires.
